[en] My trip to Romania – part 1 – Getting there
This is the second post in a series about my summer in Romania, click to read the second part about being back in Arad, Romania, or the third Back to Denmark.
I fell asleep at about half past one, woke up at half past two, left the house at 40 past 3 and walked to the train station. The walk was nothing special and neither was getting on the InterCity Lyn for Copenhagen.
The train had a lot more travelers that the one I took during the winter, but that should not have been a problem in itself. I was planning on sleeping all the way to the airport, or at least part of it. I couldn't! There was a lady in the wagon that kept talking and talking and talking and I mean talking. I didn't even know someone can keep talking for 4 hours continuously without a prepared plan, but she managed to do not just that, but also do it from 4.20 in the morning.
Anyhow, I got to the airport quite tired and was eager to get myself on the plane and fall asleep while flying to Budapest. I checked my bag in (2 kg over the limit) and attached myself to the very long queue (holiday season
) of people waiting to be checked my the security team at the airport.
I had learned from Scotland that keeping the cell phone in the pocket does trigger the metal detector so I made sure I took that out, and the change, and the belt, and the wallet and everything else. And guess what? It didn't work! It still beeped, I still got checked, but on the bright side they didn't use the metal detector.
After a long and boring stare at perfumes and wait on benches in the free tax area of the airport I went through the final ticket check and waited to get on the plane, and waited, and... A nice lady came and told us that they have a problem attaching the tunnel to the plane and it will take a bit more time before we actually board.
Another 20 minutes and a nice man comes and tells us that the crew on board has hit the plane into the tunnel, so there's going to be no more take off with that plane since the fuselage has been damaged. He also says that we'll get some snack vouchers and should wait at the transfer center in about an hour for the alternative flights.
So I waited for one 4 hours until they told me what solution the found for me, I was going to fly Copenhagen - Budapest via Brussels. Yeah, I know, Brussels is the wrong way.
So I checked in for Brussels on the Scandinavian Airlines plane and as soon as they started with the security briefing I fell asleep. I opened my eyes and say the coast of Germany sliding under the plane and then slept until Brussels. I spent another 40 boring minutes in the Brussels Airport free tax area until I boarded the Belgian Airlines plane to Budapest.
I had a very nice flight, I spoke with a very interesting Hungarian who had been at a job interview and ate and drank wine and juice and was happy with Malev sending me with Business Class. And then, finally, I got to Budapest all safe and sound after I had literally crossed the entire Europe and after all of that I was only 7 hours behind the schedule.
And if you that's that and is only to be a 4 hours drive to Arad, think again because they had lost my luggage and I was going from Budapest with a complaint paper in my hand instead of my 20+ kilos luggage. I'll come back soon with another post on my travel to Romania.
