[en] iThoughts – introduction to the homo urbanus
In the world of homo urbanus the smart phone has replaced man's best friend, the dog. Homo urbanus doesn't walk the dog, he feeds his iPhone with wireless signal while enjoying the citadine life. The new parks are the (almost) always open bars, discos and coffee shops. The new park alleys are Twitter, Facebook and always on IM.
And if homo urbanus isn't walking his best friend he always has carrier signal to keep him connected. Praised be the 3G signal and its gossip bringing capabilities.
It so happens from time to time that homo urbanus leaves his natural habitat, the city, and stays for a while in more natural, signal free areas. Homo urbanus will most definitely hate it when these things happen for its laptop is useless and all he can rely on is his best friend, a friend who tires quickly and in case of a not too close power socket homo urbanus will find his best friend terminated, powered off.
What homo urbanus usually does in these situations is swear (both meanings) never to leave his beloved city again. Or, should it be absolutely necessary, gods of the almighty Internet will be called to offer their powers in finding a fast, always connected route, for homo urbanus might not be directly social, but is socially connected.
