[tutorial] Yahoo! like emoticons/smileys in Pidgin
You've probably just switched from Yahoo! Messenger to Pidgin (or maybe even from Windows to Linux) and you're mostly happy, but for the emoticons. Pidgin comes with it's own emoticons set and the're nothing like the ones Yahoo! Messenger uses. Here's how you can have Yahoo! Messenger like emoticons on Pidgin:
Poate că tocmai ai trecut de la Yahoo! Messenger la Pidgin (sau poate chiar ai schimbat Windows-ul pe Linux) și ești fericit atâta timp cât nu vorbim despre emoticonuri. Pidgin vine cu propriul lui set de emoticonuri, emoticon-uri care nu seamănă deloc cu cele pe care le folosește Yahoo! Messenger. Uite cum poți să ai emoticon-uri de Yahoo! Messenger pe Pidgin:

1. Go to http://developer.pidgin.im/raw-attachment/wiki/ThirdPartySmileyThemes/yahoo.tar.gz and download the archive. For those of you using Windows, I recommend downloading from http://developer.pidgin.im/raw-attachment/wiki/ThirdPartySmileyThemes/yahoo.rar (the diference is in the archive format, nothing else).
2. Extract the archive. The exact procedure depends on your operating system.
3. Here's where the things differ a little. Follow the instructions for your operating system.
3.1. Microsoft Windows - copy the extracted yahoo folder to C:\Program Files\Pidgin\pixmaps\pidgin\emotes
3.2. Linux - copy the folder to /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/emotes/ . Please note that you may need administrative priviledged in order to do so. Here's the command that'll get the folder copied where it should be:
sudo cp -r yahoo /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/emotes
4. Restart Pidgin, Log in to your Yahoo! account and go to Tools->Preferences, select the Smiley Themes tab and from the list select the Yahoo! smileys.
5. Click Close, Pidgin will shut down. Restart it and enjoy the Yahoo! Messenger smileys on Pidgin, no matter what operating system you use.

1. Mergi la http://developer.pidgin.im/raw-attachment/wiki/ThirdPartySmileyThemes/yahoo.tar.gz și descarcă arhiva. Pentru cei care folosesc Windows, recomand descărcarea de la http://developer.pidgin.im/raw-attachment/wiki/ThirdPartySmileyThemes/yahoo.rar (diferența constă în formatul arhivei, nimic altceva).
2. Extrage arhiva. Procedura exactă de extragere a arhivei depinde de sistemul tău de operare.
3. Aici lucrurile diferă puțin. Urmează instrucțiunile pentru sistemul tău de operare.
3.1. Microsoft Windows - copiază directorul extras (se numește yahoo) în C:\Program Files\Pidgin\pixmaps\pidgin\emotes
3.2. Linux - copiază directorul dezarhivat în /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/emotes/ . Ține minte că s-ar putea să ai nevoie de privilegii administrative pentru a reușit copierea. Uite care este comanda care o să copieze directorul la destinația corectă:
sudo cp -r yahoo /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/emotes
4. Restartează Pidgin, autentifică-te din nou pe contul de Yahoo! account și mergi la Unelte->Preferințe (Tools->Preferences), selectează fila Teme iconițe (Smiley Themes) și din listă selectează smileyurile de Yahoo!.
5. Clic pe Închidere (Close), Pidgin se va închide de tot. Restartează-l și bucură-te de smileyuri de Yahoo! Messenger pe Pidgin, indiferent de ce sistem de operare folosești.

how about making an ubuntu package out of that so installing is even easier ? I wonder why those are not distributed alreday with pidgin

Se poate si mai simplu:
Descarcati arhiva .tar.gz, salvati-o undeva pe hard-disk, intrati in Pidgin, meniul Tools -> Preferences (Unelte -> Preferinte) , selectati tab-ul “Teme iconite” (Smiley Theme) si trageti arhiva peste fereastra de configurare a Pidgin (drag&drop) sau selectati arhiva prin apasarea butonului “Adauga” (“Add”).
