Defending a fellow blogger…

Reading the Twitter updates I noticed a link to the article here discussing the blogging/livecasting style of Justine Ezarik or iJustine for those who know her that way. This post is intended as a reply to the article I mentioned in the beginning. I will start by stating that I am a fan of iJustine. That being said let's talk a little about how useful is iJustine's blogging activity.

Leaving aside her beauty and her sometimes excentric behavior we're left with a girl who knows STUFF about technology and gadgets, who gives talks at all kinds of conferences and is an Apple fan. Do you know how that's spelled? It's GEEK, with capital letters. While a lot of her video posts fall in the category of "hey guys, i'm in #location name#" and tend to be just entertaining, some of them sometimes offer some form of useful information (availability of iPhones in stores, good clothing shops, athmosphere at conference x, obvious things not to do while in jungle and so on).

Regarding the fear that iJustine will become a role model for young teenagers, what's the problem? Most of her videos are of a good quality (not trashy webcam-quality posts), her english is good, she seems to have a good taste for clothing and some of her video posts are even done in a studio. I wouldn't mind young teenage girls thriving to do studio quality video posts.

Next point. iJustine is the ONLY beautiful geek girl I know of out there, I know some cute ones, but none is beautiful. If crazy youg teenage girls were to follow her in masses, in two years we'd have solved most of humanity's problems. Unfortunately they don't, but some do. And more important than that iJustine's look and style help erase the bad image geeks have. "Geeks are never cool, how could they be?", well iJustine does just that, she's a cool geek. Kudos iJustine for showing poeple that geeks can be cool!

Last argument (till now), iJustine is an amateur photographer. Am I alone to thinks that photography is a better hobby for teenage girls than nail polishing? You decide, here's a picture hotlinked from iJusine's site:

  1. Great post. Justine is a role model and some people just tend to be jealous of her. Thanks for defending her.
